It is constructed as a serious sport boat as opposed to more recreational style of the previous models. The most visible difference is in the sport monofilm main sail design. With 420 Instinct the boom is placed a lot higher, in the tunnel, making it safer for boating with kids because you it can’t hit their heads. However, the profile of the sail is lowered and so it is less effective and efficient. In contrast, sail on 420 Emotion is designed as a traditional sail of racing sailboats with the boom in the bottom. This effective profile of sail is more efficient when sailing. The sail at 420 Emotion is also made from a different material - transparent monofilm. This material is not as flexible as dacron and it is an advantage with this boat.
